A Thanksgiving mixed bag of differentiated math worksheets and practical activities ideal for math centers. Content Teacher notes (5 pages). You could set up math stations for students. Optional lesson starter PowerPoint (0 to 20) – Whole class counting aloud backwards and forwards. You can assess students’ knowledge - which number comes after 7 or what numbers comes before 11 and practice one more/one less. Picture Number Puzzle Strips x7 (color/b/w) – The strips range from 1 to 10, 11 to 20 and then counting by 2s to 20; counting by 2s using odd numbers, e.g. 1, 3, 5 etc and even numbers – 2, 4, 6 etc. Numeral cards 0- 20 in words and figures for various activities such as matching numbers to number words; sorting odd and even numbers. 3 sets of Picture cards (pumpkin, pumpkin pie and ‘We are thankful’ cards) – to be used with a variety of activities with the numeral cards, as outlined in teacher notes. E.g. Group activity, you or a student can shuffle the cards 1 to 10 and place them face down on the table. Another student takes a card and then count out the picture cards to match the number. Tens frames and turkey cards for various activities such as missing number in an equation. Place for example 7 cards on the tens frame and then write: 7 + ____ = 10 The student will see 3 empty spaces on the tens frame. Cut and stick activity - Counting up to 5. Thanksgiving Counting worksheets (2 pgs) - Students count the pictures and write the number in the space provided. Color and count worksheets (2 pgs) Students read and count carefully how many of the pictures they need to color in. Missing Numbers worksheets (7 pgs) Students fill in the missing number above each turkey. Students are counting by 1s forward and backwards starting from any number. Write the number before and after (2 pages) - Students trace inside the middle number and then write the number that comes before and after. Trace over numbers and words up to 10 This resource comes in color and b/w. Students can practice forming their numerals and counting the pictures alongside the number. This resource focuses on repeated patterns using Christmas patterns and shapes. Students can practise creating their own Christmas patterns. Teacher’s Notes describes the lesson which you can choose to make it last throughout the whole morning or afternoon or 1 hour session. Content: PowerPoint Presentation (10 Slides) - Include whole class activities, examples of repeated Christmas patterns, in the Presentation children are asked where they have seen repeated patterns of pictures - they might mention their wallpaper at home, car seat covers, on printed clothes (e.g. socks) etc. Differentiated Activity Sheets 1 and 2 - Complete the sequence of pictures Activity Sheet 1b – Pictures to cut out to complete Activity Sheets Blank Repeating Patterns Worksheets to create own repeating pattern Extension Patterns Worksheet Extension Christmas Shapes New worksheets for early finishers A one hour lesson for children to explore repeating patterns in the context of Christmas. The lesson should last 50 mins to 1 hour depending on how long your students take to design their patterns: Introduction to set the scene: 10-15mins; Main Lesson 15-20 mins; Consolidation of lesson (work at table): 20 mins; and Plenary/Closing session 5-10mins. Bring in some Christmas wrapping paper with repeated patterns of pictures and/or shapes or you can display Slide 1 showing examples of Christmas patterns. The children may have been wrapping presents or looking at wrapped presents. Focus their attention on the patterns. This lesson takes children through looking at simple picture patterns and working out the next picture in the sequence. Opportunity for children to create their own repeated patterns by cutting and pasting pictures - using pictures on Activity Sheet 1b Opportunity to create a whole sheet of repeated patterns and pictures/shapes to show to the whole class in the plenary- Extensions Pattern Worksheet. This product relates to counting activities, missing numbers (writing in words and figures) and finding more or fewer. Aimed at: Pre-K/K As you play slides 3 to 4 the children count aloud the numbers. Slide 3 is from 1 to 10 and Slide 4 from 11 to 20. You have the option of using Slides 5 to 26 for more counting from 0 to 20. It is a 70 slide PowerPoint presentation which includes the following whole class activities: • General counting 0 to 20. • Counting leprechaun pictures • Working out ‘How many more…?’ • Working out ‘How many fewer…?’ • Counting pots of gold and then saying which has more gold coins • Differentiated missing numbers grids 1 to 10, 1 to 15, 1 to 30. <strong>Independent Follow-up Work</strong> There are 4 activity tasks for the students to undertake. Activity Sheet 1 (x22)– Students read the number in the circle and then cut out that number of gold coins. They then tick which pot has more coins. Count and color activity (x3)– More counting practice – there are too many counters in each grid. The students read the digit in the green box and then color in the required number of coins to match the digit. Missing Numbers and Words (x2) – numbers 1 to 10 grid, 1 to 15 grid and for the more able 1 to 30 grid with missing numbers to fill in. Students write in the missing numbers in the grid. When they have done this, they then write the numbers that are missing in words. Worksheets (x3) on How many more…? - Students work out the answers to the tasks. This resource is primarily aimed at EYFS/Reception and Year 1 as it relates to counting to 10 and writing addition sentences using a Tens Frame. The only preparation is to print and laminate the A4 size task cards. Content: • All Task Cards are also on PowerPoint Slides • 10 Counting Task Cards - PDF • 25 Addition Task Cards - PDF • 2 Blank Ten Frames • Teacher Notes Counting Task Cards The cards are on PowerPoint Slides and as PDF activity worksheets which you can print off and laminate. Students count the counters or dots and write down the number. You can do this activity as a whole class. Play the PowerPoint Presentation and students can either say how many counters they see or write the answer on their whiteboards. 25 Addition Task Cards The addition task cards are on PowerPoint Slides. Hand out whiteboards/dry erase pens. Show one or two slides. Tell students that There are two blue blank boxes below the tens frame for students to write two addition sums. Ask: How many blue counters do you see? Ask: How many yellow counters do you see? Now tell the students to write an addition sum using the plus and equals sign and then to show you on their whiteboards. Ask: Does it matter which way we write the addition sum? And would it change the answer? You can print out the task cards as they are also saved as PDFs and laminate for students to practise write addition sums two ways. Other suggested uses Learning about doubles. Select some of the addition cards including those with the same amount colours on each card, i.e. 1 + 1; 2 + 2; 3 + 3; 4 + 4; 5 + 5. Ask children what they notice about the number of counters? Same number repeated twice, 3 + 3. Say 2 + 2 = 4 is the same as saying double 2 is 4 3 + 3 = 6 is the same as saying double 3 is 6 Optional All the task cards on are on PowerPoint, so you can change the colour of the counters and print off. Ideal to use in a carousel system - each table has a dedicated activity and the children can move round once they have had a go at an activity. <strong>Content:</strong> Teachers Notes on activities -Whole page colour words surrounded by bubbles -Whole page colour words for children to trace over the dashes Colour word cards - upper case letters Colour word cards - lower case letters Selection of colour pictures with labels Black and white pictures for children to colour in Clipart buttons in a variety of colours Colours : red, brown, blue, orange, black, green, grey, yellow, white, purple and pink. <strong>• Activity 1</strong> – You can direct the children to use any colour media to fill in the colour words and the bubbles – paint, crayons, felt tips, pencils. <strong>• Activity 2</strong> – Children join up the dashes to complete the letters and then colour in the word. They can draw things that are usually that colour. <strong>• Activity 3</strong> – Use IT Paint Palette on computer to create a colourful picture or simply a rainbow.
